Steps to Recover Deleted Email from Outlook 2003

Sometimes, deleting unwanted emails from Outlook becomes important, in order to keep Outlook and PST file in good working condition. The deleted emails are transferred to ‘Deleted Items’ folder. So, if you end up deleting an important email, you can retrieve it back instantly from Deleted Items folder. However, if you delete an email and it is not present in Deleted Items folder then the problem becomes severe. Outlook provides an inbuilt recovery option to recover missing emails from Outlook 2010. This option can only be used if your Outlook is configured with Microsoft Exchange Server. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Start the Microsoft Outlook 2003 and from the left panel select the folder from which the deleted emails has to be recovered.
  • Then select the Tool-> Recover Deleted Item. A window, listing all the deleted emails will be displayed.
  • Select the deleted emails that has to be recovered and click ‘Restore Selected Items’ option. All the emails will be restored to their original location.

Using the Microsoft solution to undelete Outlook 2007 emails or from other Outlook version is not the safest way as:

  • If the Outlook is not properly configured with the Microsoft Exchange Server, then it is not possible to restore deleted emails that are been lost either by emptying the Deleted Items folder or hard deleted emails (emails that is deleted with Shift+Del key combination).   • Microsoft Exchange Server maintains the deleted emails upto 14 days. After this time interval, Outlook items will be permanently deleted.
  • To recover deleted emails other then the Deleted Items folder such as Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts, etc, modifications in Windows registry is required, which is very risky process because any incorrect entry may require to reinstall the operating system.
  • Using this software recovery of deleted distribution list on Outlook can be done with ease.
  • The emails that are been deleted from Outlook because of PST file corruption, viruses, improper shutdown etc, cannot be recovered from the inbuilt recovery option.

When emails are deleted, Microsoft Outlook cannot locate the file because of missing pointer, but the emails still remains intact. Step 1: Download and install the trial version of Recover Deleted Email (PST). On the main screen, you will get three options "Open PST" option, "Find PST" option and "Select Outlook profile" option as shown in figure 1.

Step 2: Select "Open PST" option, if you know the PST file location from which the deleted emails has to be recovered. Click "Browse" to location the PST file. After selecting the PST file, click "Next" as shown in figure 2.

For Outlook

Step 3: Select "Find PST" option, if you do not know the PST file location from which the deleted emails has to be recovered. Click "Find" and select the drive from which the PST has to be selected. All the PST files present on that drive will be listed, select the PST file and click "Next" as shown in figure 3.

Step 4: Select the appropriate scanning method. To recover deleted emails from Outlook select "Smart Scan". Browse for the destination path where you want to save the new PST file and click "Repair" as shown in figure 4. Once the repair process is completed, all the recovered outlook items will be displayed.
